Twitter adds Stickers option for photos

For its latest feature, Twitter is going to look a little more like Snapchat.

The social media service revealed Monday it will soon roll out Stickers users can add to photos to give them a more creative touch. The selection of stickers will include accessories, emojis and props users can resize and place on a photo before sharing it on Twitter.

"Use them to share what you’re doing or how you’re feeling, to show support for a cause, or to just add some flair," said Twitter senior product manager Sasank Reddy in a blog post published Monday.

Stickers will also be searchable. When a user clicks on a specific sticker, they view a timeline showing how the sticker was used in different photos. The feature rolls out over the next few weeks for iOS and Android users.

The Stickers option is similar to one available on Snapchat, the messaging app surging in popularity among younger smartphone owners.

The addition of Stickers arrives as Twitter looks for new ways to boost its user base. During the first quarter, Twitter reported 310 million monthly active users, up 3% compared to last year. The company is expected to report second quarter results in either July or August.

Shares of Twitter are down 4.4% in afternoon trading. Since the start of the year, shares of Twitter were down 30%.
