OnePlus may have delayed the launch of its Oreo update for its OnePlus 5 users, but now the OTA update is finally here. OnePlus is now rolling out staged rollout of OxygenOS 5.0.1, the first official Android Oreo OTA rollout for OnePlus 5 users.
The build is now 5.0.1 and most of the changelog is the same, said the company on the OnePlus forum. However, there are additional updates such as bug fixes for third-party camera apps and fixes for network issues for European operators.
This update will not work on any device with an unlocked bootloader.
Last week, the company had canceled the rollout of due to a bug in the build. As part of the update, the OnePlus 5 users will get the popular Face Unlock feature. The OnePlus launcher gets optimisation shelf beside being able to upload photos through Shot on OnePlus. Also, the camera gets a new UI, optimisations for photo quality and beauty effect for Portrait Mode. The Gallery app will now have a new 'Places' tab for viewing photos on a map. The Calculator app will have a history feature and the Clock app will have an alarm calendar feature.
As for the system, the OnePlus 5 will have parallel apps feature, new design for Quick Settings and Lift up display. Besides this, there will be "adaptive mode " screen calibration and optimisations for Wi-Fi and Battery Saver.
Both OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T have already received the latest OxygenOS 5.0.1 update. It adds features like a new Wi-Fi hotspot manager, an 'adaptive mode' screen calibration, and other bug fixes and improvements. There is no word about the Android-Oreo based OS coming to company's latest flagship, OnePlus 5T, which was launched in November. Although, if rumors are to be believed, it may not hold this title for long. This is because the successor to OnePlus 5T, likely to be called OnePlus 6, is said to be launched as soon as March 2018. The handset is said to feature an under-display fingerprint sensor and is expected to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor.
